The Thousand Days War left a devastated economy, a worthless currency and infrastructure in ruins. The conflict sowed deep hatreds, which resurfaced in the 1930s with the end of conservative hegemony. In 1903, with the help of the United States, the State of Panama, whose peace had been guaranteed in the ship Wisconsin, was lost.

Although over time the interest in this ancient conflict has diminished in the face of more recent events, the commemoration offers the opportunity to remember a fact widely documented and studied by chroniclers and academics in search of understanding the reasons for the national conflict.
